Beef + Lamb NZ : Update on Mp.bovis

Beef + Lamb NZ : Update on Mp.bovis

Beef + Lamb NZ representatives have been meeting face-to-face with government and other industry groups this week.

We have also committed additional funding for the Rural Support Trusts to help drystock farmers through the compensation process, and employed additional resource to work with farmers on M.bovis and wider biosecurity management.

This includes organising a series of farm bio-security workshops in conjunction with Dairy NZ, NZVA, regional councils, OSPRI and the Ministry for Primary Industries.

These free workshops are aimed at raising awareness of on farm biosecurity and highlight the things farmers can be thinking about to protect their farming business. They include an update on local farm biosecurity risks, Mp.bovis and what to look out for. You will also have a chance to complete your own farm general biosecurity health check.

The next two are on 21st May at Kaiwaka and Dargaville, but look out for additional workshops in your area by visiting the B+LNZ events calendar.

If you are concerned about Mp.bovis, please get in touch with B+LNZ or your extension manager and we can organise a workshop in your area.

A decision about the next steps in the Mp.bovis response, including whether to carry out a phased eradication or adopt a long-term management strategy, is expected to be made by the end of the month.

We will continue to keep you informed of any developments.
